I was asked to bring it up onto the mailing list, so here I'am.
In all Communities we had sooner or later the discussion of using a
Mailinglist vs. Forum vs. Newsgroup.
My suggestion and best practice is to do it all-in-one to attract more
people to attend to the same topics.
The existing Mailinglist can be interfaces with http://gmane.org which
offers web-readers and read/write newsgroup access.
It can be also interfaces with http://www.nabble.com/ for the forum
users.
How it looks-and-feels you can see at
Mailing-List
http://lists.plone.org/mailman/listinfo/product-developers
(for use with mail-client)
Forum:
http://plone.org/support/forums/addons
(for through-the-web usage)
Newsgroup
http://news.gmane.org/gmane.comp.web.zope.plone.product-developers
(can be used by a newsreader)
